Most of my clients have no photos of their own mothers pregnant. That generation carried, labored, and raised entire families with almost no record of what their bodies did. I'm Colorado's only photographer dedicated exclusively to maternity, and the only one shooting fine art film alongside digital. Eight years in, hundreds of mothers later, this is still the only thing I do. Pregnancy is the most powerful version of the human form, and it's been underseen for too long.

What I Offer
A studio session is the most directed work I do. Editorial lighting, a curated client closet with twenty-plus pieces, professional hair and makeup, and a dedicated 1,200-square-foot space in Denver's Art District built specifically for this. It’s also what makes me the city’s dedicated Denver maternity photographer.
Most mothers walk in unsure how to pose or what to wear. By the second outfit change, they're moving differently in front of the camera, telling me which images they want to keep, looking at the screen and saying is that me? The studio is where uncertainty becomes confidence the fastest.

Studio Sessions
Outdoor sessions are where Colorado does half the work. The Flatirons in Boulder, red rock at Garden of the Gods, golden aspens in mid-September, sand dunes at sunrise, alpine lakes reflecting Indian Peaks. Every region of the state has its own light, and golden hour at altitude reads differently than golden hour anywhere else.
I scout each location, handle the permits, and plan around weather, wildflowers, and the kind of light that makes your bump look exactly like it should. Outdoor Sessions
Film is the most cinematic work I do. Medium format on a Hasselblad, 35mm on a Nikon F6, real Portra 400 grain, no retouching beyond the scan. The look is unmistakable: softer rolloff, color depth digital can't replicate, and a quality of light that reads as fine art the moment you see it printed.
The pace matters too. Fewer frames, longer between exposures, more weight on each shot. Film slows the entire session down in a way that produces images you actually sit with, not images you scroll past.
I shoot film as an add-on to digital sessions because most clients want both. Digital for volume and flexibility. Film for the handful of frames worth framing, printing large, and hanging on the wall.

WanderBump™ Adventure Sessions
WanderBump™ is my own invention: an elopement, but for pregnancy. We pick a trail, plan the outfits, and walk to the kind of place most maternity photos never reach. An alpine lake going glass-still at first light. Tundra above treeline. Some of the most iconic views in the state. A basin of July wildflowers with nobody else in it.
These sessions get planned like small expeditions and paced like easy walks. I carry the gear, choose route that makes sense for a third trimester, and build in the snack stops, because I grew up on these trails and I know what the altitude asks of you. Pregnancy doesn't cancel the backcountry. It just means we plan smarter.

A meaningful portion of my work happens outside Colorado. I travel regularly to California (San Francisco, Monterey, San Diego), Florida (Sarasota and the Gulf Coast), the Oregon Coast, Hawaii, New York City, and Las Vegas for clients who want me to come to them. Some destinations once or twice a year. Some more often than that.
The model is borrowed from how the best elopement photographers work. The session fee stays the same as a Colorado session. Travel costs (flights, lodging, equipment shipping, ground transport) are billed separately and quoted up front. For clients who want to shoot in their own setting rather than fly to Colorado, the math often works out comparable once you factor everything in.

Thirty to 34 weeks is the sweet spot after 500+ sessions. The bump is fully the star, and you still have the energy to enjoy being one. It's a guideline, not a rule: I've photographed moms at 22 weeks and at 41, and no bump is ever too big for great portraits. The real advice is to reach out earlier than feels necessary. Peak season books six to eight weeks out, the fall color window disappears first every year, and pregnancy keeps its own schedule. The full timing math is in my when to schedule guide.

Both are my expertise, so this one is about you. The studio is 1,200 square feet in Denver's Art District, built for maternity and nothing else: lighting I sculpt up from a white backdrop, a full client closet, hair and makeup, zero weather risk. Outdoors, Colorado does half the work. Mountains at sunrise, red rock, golden aspens for about two weeks every September. If your pregnancy has a place attached to it, we go shoot it there. Nothing fitting is not a problem. It's practically the point. Almost every mom says this on the way in. Posing is my job, not yours. I direct every frame down to where your fingers go, and every shot lands live on a 42-inch monitor, so you watch your gallery build in real time. Somewhere around the second outfit, most moms go quiet mid-look. That's you, and it's not even retouched yet. My reviews are 200 accounts of the same story: nervous walking in, empowered walking out.

You don't have to do anything. Some moms keep every stitch on, some want the bump bared, and some are here precisely for fine art nudes. All three make powerful portraits. I call the way I work professional intimacy: you set the line, and I light whichever side of it you choose. Please bring them. Partners usually assume they're on bag duty, right up until I hand them their pregnant wife and they forget the camera exists. Kids get their own segment at the start of the session, while their patience is freshest. And dogs are welcome in the studio. Some of my favorite frames from eight years of this are a golden retriever wedged between two parents and a bump.

I get this one a lot. Moms ask, their friends ask, their moms ask. Then the session starts, I model the first pose myself, which I will admit looks a little silly, and the question quietly fades. I didn't land here because I'm a man. I landed here because I'm a fine art portraitist, and pregnancy is the most powerful subject I've ever put in front of a light. After 500+ sessions, the surprise isn't that I do this. It's how fast the nerves disappear once we start.

Because nobody else in Colorado does, and someone should. I'm the only photographer in the state dedicated exclusively to maternity, and the only one shooting fine art film alongside digital, in medium format and 35mm both. Eight years and 500+ mothers in, the specialization is the whole advantage: lighting a bump at every stage, posing for every body, getting a nervous mom to her best photos inside an hour. Most of my clients have no photos of their own mothers pregnant. I'm working on making sure their kids can't say that.
